About Us

The Southeastern Regional Association Karst Task Force (SKTF) is a non-profit resource organization dedicated to karst conservation and the clean up of cave and karst features through the education of both the public and caving communities.

Karst is a geologic term used to describe regions characterized by sinkholes, sinking streams, large springs and caves. In the past numerous karst areas have been used as trash dumps, SKTF believes it is critical for these karst features to be kept clean of trash, toxic materials and debris.

Caves can be important for a variety of reasons such as recreation, historical aspects, prehistoric significance, scenic beauty, scientific values and unique cave life. These values are endangered by both carelessness and intentional vandalism. Each year the SERA Karst Task Force along with countless volunteers clean up karst landscapes and caves. Numerous avenues of cave conservation exist such as sinkhole clean-ups, karst clean-ups, cave clean-ups, historic cave resource conservation, pre-historic cave resource conservation, speleothem repair and education. The most important thing you can do to help conserve karst landscapes is to volunteer to help on SERA Karst Task Force Projects.
